Hotels in Taipei City Center – Downtown Hotels in Taipei

Taipei is a beautiful city, one that has attracted sightseers across the East for many decades, and one that has only just started to appeal to tourists from further afield. The best way to enjoy a city is to stay within the centre, putting you within walking distance of the best landmarks, the best attractions and the best bars and restaurants, and Taipei is no different.

A stay in any city center means you will be some distance from the airport, but you’ll only be making that trip twice, to begin and to end your holiday. In Taipei’s city center, you’ll only be a short drive away from the airport anyway, and many hotels have shuttle services that are available for a fraction of the price that you would pay for a taxi.

The hotels below are the most luxurious and most iconic hotels in downtown Taipei. These are the places to be, the perfect base for any trip to this vibrant city.

Hotel Royal Taipei

This hotel is simply faultless and we’re clearly not the only ones who think so, judging by its 5-star rating. The Hotel Royal Taipei is the epitome of luxury in downtown Taipei, showing that you don’t have to compromise on quality and comfort for a great location. From their Premier Double Rooms to their Corner Suites, all of the rooms at the Hotel Royal Taipei have been designed with a painstaking attention to detail, equipped with everything from air conditioning, a flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi, to a bathtub and a minibar.

The hotel is big, with over 200 rooms available. It has five restaurants, allowing guests to choose which cuisine they fancy on any given day, with everything from Japanese to Cantonese and a bakery. There are plenty of staff, all of which have been well trained, so despite its size, guests never feel overlooked and are always guaranteed VIP treatment.

If you want to do a bit of shopping then the hotel can help out there as well. As well as a gift shop, where you can pick up a memento of your trip, they also have an in-house tailor who can fit you for a special suit. This is a hotel that has really thought of everything, which is why it is our favorite hotel in downtown Taipei, and maybe our favorite hotel in the entire city.

Regent Taipei

The Regent Taipei is a 5-star hotel in the heart of Taipei. This is even bigger than the Hotel Royal mentioned above, with a huge 538 rooms available. This is one of, if not the biggest hotels in the city and as well as their many rooms they also have a business center, a fitness center, a health club, a rooftop pool and a sauna.

The rooms are the highlight of this hotel, showing everyone how 5-star luxury should be. Their suites in particular are some of the best rooms in the entire city, with marble-paved bathrooms that boast spa bathtubs, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer some breathtaking views of the city. These are the most expensive rooms that they have available and they are also the biggest, but if you want something smaller and cheaper then they have many more room types available.

They also have plenty of options when it comes to afternoon or evening dining, which you can enjoy after beginning your day with a buffet breakfast. The dining options include traditional Japanese food, traditional Chinese food and much more, along with a brasserie that serves a little more variety and has a salad bar.

Ambience Hotel

The Ambience Hotel prides itself on offering all of the amenities you could ask for in a hotel, all delivered in a simple, minimalistic environment that allows the Ambience Hotel to live up to its name. Many of the rooms here are on the small side, but the hotel itself is very spacious and if room size is an issue for you then there are also bigger ones available.

The Ambience Hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout and all of the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a minibar, a hairdryer, toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat-screen television. There is a restaurant onsite that serves some local cuisine, and there are also shops and vending machines so you can purchase some snacks, some drinks and some other items.

The Ambience Hotel also has free parking if you have rented a car in the city, which is not too common as far as downtown Taipei hotels are concerned. This is a very affordable 4-star hotel, with rooms that should be able to match most budgets and with great views of this beautiful city in all of them.

Tango Nanshi Taipei

The Tango Nanshi is part of the Tango hospitality brand, which has several other hotels across Taiwan and further afield. This downtown Taipei hotel has been rated as 4-stars, with spacious rooms that all offer views of Taipei and have a number of amenities. All rooms come with their own en-suite bathroom, equipped with a spa bathtub. The rooms are also fitted with a flat-screen televisions, a fridge and a safe.

As far as the choice of rooms go, at the Tango Nanshi you can opt for a Superior Studio, which does not have a window and therefore offers no city views; a Junior King Room, which does have a window and a view, and is a little bigger; or a Premium King Room, which has everything that the other rooms have and a few extra features as well. These rooms are all reasonably priced, and when it comes to sizable 4-star rooms in the city center, you’ll struggle to find cheaper.

The Tango Nanshi hotel has a business center, a fitness center and a restaurant, making it an ideal choice for business travelers who have work in the city, and for leisure travelers who need a comfortable base for their Taipei getaway. The Tango Nanshi has an airport shuttle service that will take you to and from the airport, but there is a surcharge for this service and you should try to book it well in advance. They also have a laundry and a dry cleaning service inside the hotel, along with baggage storage, a banqueting facility and a concierge.
