Taipei Night Market Hotels

Night markers are very popular in Taiwan and in the East in general. In fact, a visit to this part of the world is not complete without a visit to a night market. Simply put, these are markets that run during the night, but they are a little different to the markets that you visit during the day.

A night market is often open-air, with the skies lit by the shops below, the air thick with incense, the smell of freshly cooked food and the chatter of shoppers. These are not really for shopping, but for taking a casual stroll and absorbing the sights, sounds and tastes of the city. There is often a lot of fresh and local food to sample, food that can be eaten on the go. All visitors are advised to sample at least some of this fare.

In this article we’ll look at the best hotels that are located next to the best night markets, which means that after a night-time stroll you are always just a short walk away from returning to your nice warm hotel room.

Les Suites Grandee

The Les Suites Grandee is a four-star hotel that is located opposite the world famous Shilin Night Market, which finds its way onto the itineraries of many tourists and attracts visitors from all over. The Shilin Night Market is also one of the oldest night markets in Taiwan and further afield, having been founded way back in 1899. Many visitors flock to the Shilin Night Market for its food, of which there is a wide variety to choose from. From handheld snacks that you can take around the market with you, to drinks that will warm you up during the chilly night, it really does have it all and the air is awash with the scent of it throughout the night.

The Shilin Night Market opens in the late afternoon and remains open for some time. As well as eating and drinking, there is also a lot of shopping to be done, with many great bargains available. Don’t feel bad if you don’t buy anything though, the majority of tourists come here to browse — to window shop if you like — and the stall owners accept and understand this. It’s an experience, not necessarily an opportunity to spend, but if you do pick up a few items then you’ll have some unique mementoes to take back home with you.
