Shangri-La Taipei

The Shangri-La is one of the most revered names in the hospitality business, a name that is attached to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels. This 5-star establishment in the city of Taipei does not disappoint, living up to its name in style. The Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza, to give it its full name, is located in the Da’an District and is as good as it gets in Taipei.

The Rooms

There are over 400 rooms at the Shangri-La Taipei, and these range from the “basic” Superior King and Superior Twin rooms, which are just shy of 400 square feet and come with basic amenities, to the Premier King room, which is a good 50% bigger and has one of the best views in the hotel. All rooms are air conditioned and have private bathrooms (with a bath), flat-screen televisions, a private safe and tea and coffee making facilities. They are all decorated in a modern style and have been finished to a high standard befitting of the Shangri-La name.

The Hotel

The rooftop pool at the Shangri-La Taipei is one of the best pools in the city and also offers some of the best views. This is an ideal place to relax and unwind, but if you want something a little more hands-on then the Horizon Spa can help, with massages, treatments and more all available for guests.

There is also a tour desk within the hotel, where experienced, polite and knowledgable staff can tell you all that you need to know about the city and can also direct you to the best venues, the best restaurants and the best attractions. They can even arrange sightseeing tours, helping you to take in as much of Taipei as possible in a short time.

As it is located in the vibrant and culturally-rich Da’an District, there is also plenty to see and do outside of the hotel.

The Extras

You pay for perfection in 5-star hotels. You pay for everything being in its right place, everything being just right. You also pay for the little things, because only when hotels get all of the little extras absolutely spot on, are they able to achieve an illusive 5-star rating. Luckily, the Shangri-La Taipei has a glut of extras that can make any holiday complete.

If you have a special diet and are worried your requests won’t be met in a foreign place with foreign cuisine, then fear not. The room service, the breakfast and the onsite restaurant at the Shangri-La Taipei can all handle special diets. Just be sure to let them know in advance and they can make arrangements to ensure your needs are met.

The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast with a range of foods and they can also serve you breakfast in your room. The Shangri-La Taipei offers the height of luxury for leisure travelers, but it can also cater for business travelers, with banqueting facilities, a business center, fax and photocopying facilities and much more. There is even a shoeshine and a trouser press, all designed to make your stay easier and more enjoyable.

If you have your family with you then let the hotel’s babysitting services take care of your young ones for a few hours whilst you enjoy a meal or do some sightseeing. There is also a concierge service where the needs of guests are met around the clock, along with a laundry, ironing and dry cleaning service.

Best Deals on the Shangri-La Taipei

Taipei is one of the cheapest cities in the world when it comes to hospitality. The best hotels in this city can be booked for a fraction of the price of major cities such as Paris and London. This means that travelers who typically opt for 3-star or 4-star hotels, are able to bump themselves up to 5-star hotels when they arrive in Taipei.

It’s a little tricky to get big offers on 5-star hotels as they tend not to advertise cut-price rates and like to keep any offers on the down-low. However, such offers do exist, and you can take advantage of these if you get in touch with the hotel directly (phoning them or visiting them on the day that you want to book-in is usually the best option) or if you keep a close eye on hotel deal sites, such as Hotels Combined.
